ASCOT VALE RESIDENCE
For this Edwardian addition, materiality tells the story of old meeting new. The weatherboard Edwardian frontage — picket fence, lacework verandah and all — is retained and celebrated, before giving way to a confident gabled addition wrapped in shou sugi ban cladding. Recycled red brick anchors the carport at the rear laneway, answered by a blackened brick chimney rising through a timber-battened pergola and wide hardwood deck. Generous glazing, louvres and skylights carve light into the new form, dissolving the edge between living spaces and garden. A layered palette of timber, brick and glass — textural, honest and quietly bold.
